HeartMath Featured on the Today Show, Thursday, January 26, 2006

As part of the “Heart Smarts” series, “Today” explores the link between your heart health and your emotions. The heart’s more than a pump — it actually sends messages to the brain. Dr. Rollin McCraty of the Institute of HeartMath visited “Today” to discuss the science behind the theory.

The segment that features HeartMath will air on Thursday morning, January 26, 2006.

The Institute of HeartMath, a research center dedicated to the study of the heart and the physiology of emotions, has conducted numerous studies identifying the relationship between emotions and the heart. A number of their studies have provided new insight into understanding how the activity of the heart is indeed linked to our emotions and our health, vitality and well-being.

We feel-see the future in hearts

Are human beings intuitively aware of future events? Stories constantly circulate about people suddenly deciding to take another route home, thus avoiding disaster. Or those who seek contact with a loved one just when that loved one is in danger. Is that intuition? Coincidence? Do these people have access to information about the future? HeartMath wanted to begin to answer those questions and devised the following study involving 26 subjects.

Children do better in school thanks to “heart computer”

A whirlpool. That’s what 11-year-old fifth-grader Bart Hazelhof thinks about when he wants to calm down. If Bart concentrates on the image of a whirlpool, his restless thoughts (about an argument, an upcoming test or an exciting game) fade into the background. Since a HeartMath program was installed on a computer in his classroom at the Laurentius school in the Dutch city of Delft, Bart can see the effect of his whirlpool for himself.
